چکیده

Non-Fellerian processes show phenomena that are unseen in standard interacting particle systems. We consider freezing transitions in one-dimensional non-Fellerian processes which are built from the abelian sandpile additions to which in one case, spin flips are added, and in another case, the so called anti-sandpile subtractions. In the first case and as a function of the sandpile addition rate, there is a sharp transition from a non-trivial invariant measure to the invariant measure of the sandpile process. For the combination sandpile plus anti-sandpile, there is a sharp transition from one frozen state to the other anti-state 1 .

A Microscopic Model for Stefan’s Melting and Freezing Problem

We study a class of one-dimensional interacting particle systems with random boundaries as a microscopic model for Stefan’s melting and freezing problem. We prove that under diffusive rescaling these particle systems exhibit a hydrodynamic behavior described by the solution of a Cauchy-Stefan problem.

Fluctuation-induced order in two-dimensional colloidal clusters

– The behavior of a finite number (N = 29) of paramagnetic colloidal particles in 2D circular hard-wall cavities is investigated. By applying a magnetic field B, the interaction between the particles is varied. We demonstrate that the angular diffusion of the particles which are arranged in shells is highly anisotropic and shows a non-monotonic behavior as a function of B. When reducing radial ...

Phase behavior of polydisperse spheres: simulation strategies and an application to the freezing transition.

The statistical mechanics of phase transitions in dense systems of polydisperse particles presents distinctive challenges to computer simulation and analytical theory alike. The core difficulty, namely, dealing correctly with particle size fractionation between coexisting phases, is set out in the context of a critique of previous simulation work on such systems. Specialized Monte Carlo simulat...

We discuss the general link between mode-coupling like equations (which serve as the basis of some recent theories of supercooled liquids) and the dynamical equations governing mean-eld spin-glass models, or the dynamics of a particle in a random potential. The physical consequences of this interrelation are underlined. It suggests to extend the mode-coupling approximation to temperatures well ...

Glass models on Bethe lattices

We consider " lattice glass models " in which each site can be occupied by at most one particle, and any particle may have at most ℓ occupied nearest neighbors. Using the cavity method for locally tree-like lattices, we derive the phase diagram, with a particular focus on the vitreous phase and the highest packing limit. We also study the energy landscape via the configurational entropy, and di...
